Brian playing in classBrian’s areas of research interest include trumpet performance, music pedagogy, and the use of wind instruments music in contemporary Christian worship.  His dissertation “Memorization in Trumpet Pedagogy: A Qualitative Case Study of its Integration in the College-Level Applied Studio” looked at prominent teachers and their trumpet studios at Boston University and UCLA.  It investigated how the process of memorization may strengthen aural and analytical learning, while challenging and equipping students for diverse, expressive, and richly informed music-making.  Brian has shared his research at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Miami, Florida and Elmhurst College.
